How Booking Works

A non-refundable deposit covering your gorilla permit and Akagera arrangements confirms your dates and secures everything with the relevant authorities — the gorilla permit through the Rwanda Development Board, park fees for Akagera and Nyungwe, and lodge availability across all three regions. Given this itinerary spans three separate parks and up to nine nights, we recommend booking at least six months ahead, and earlier still for peak season (June–September, December–February) or if travelling November–May specifically to qualify for the low-season permit discount.

The balance is due ahead of arrival on a schedule set out in your written proposal, and once confirmed, we coordinate every transfer, permit, and lodge booking directly, including the choice between the Nyungwe road transfer and the domestic flight option.

WHO THIS SUITS

Rwanda’s Full Range in One Trip

This itinerary suits travellers who want to understand Rwanda as more than a single-purpose gorilla-trekking destination — savanna game viewing at Akagera, mountain gorilla and golden monkey trekking at Volcanoes National Park, and chimpanzee trekking through one of Africa’s oldest rainforests at Nyungwe, all within ten genuinely varied days. It is a strong choice for first-time Rwanda visitors who want to see the whole country properly rather than returning for a second trip, and for travellers who find a single-destination itinerary too narrow for the time and cost involved in reaching Rwanda in the first place.

Road Transfer vs. Domestic Flight to Nyungwe

The drive from Volcanoes National Park to Nyungwe takes most of a day on Rwanda’s well-maintained but winding mountain roads, offering scenic tea-plantation and hillside views many guests genuinely enjoy as part of the trip. A domestic flight via Kamembe airstrip cuts this significantly, freeing up time for an additional activity or simply a more relaxed transfer day. We can arrange either option and will lay out the time and cost trade-off clearly when building your proposal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ten days too ambitious for a first Rwanda trip?
Not at all — the pacing is built around two to three nights per region with rest built into the Volcanoes National Park section specifically, avoiding the exhaustion that can come from moving too quickly between destinations.

What exactly is included in the $12,500 per-person price?
The gorilla, golden monkey, and chimpanzee trekking permits, nine nights across all four locations on an all-inclusive basis, your private guide and vehicle throughout, and all transfers. Optional add-ons like the canopy walkway fee, international flights, and the Nyungwe domestic flight upgrade are priced separately.

Do we qualify for the low-season permit discount?
Yes, if travelling between November and May — this itinerary’s Akagera and Nyungwe nights already satisfy RDB’s requirement for the discounted $1,050 gorilla permit rate, so the saving applies automatically for eligible travel dates.

Can we upgrade any single region’s lodge or permit tier?
Yes — every element of this itinerary can be adjusted independently, whether that’s upgrading to the Exclusive Mountain Gorilla Experience or choosing a different Akagera or Nyungwe property.

How quickly will we hear back after enquiring?
We respond to every enquiry within 48 hours with a bespoke written proposal covering the exact lodges, pricing, and day-by-day details for your specific dates and group size.

Extending or Adjusting This Circuit

This ten-day structure is a flexible starting template — common adjustments include extending to twelve days for additional time at any single region, adding the Exclusive Mountain Gorilla Experience or Behind the Scene Package, or including a Lake Kivu stop between Nyungwe and Kigali. Tell us what matters most to your group and we’ll build a final proposal around it.

A NOTE ON PRICING

What the $12,500 Figure Reflects

The $12,500 per-person figure reflects double occupancy at the lodges named in this itinerary during standard season, with the Nyungwe road transfer rather than the flight upgrade included. Solo travellers, larger groups, peak-season dates, and alternative lodge tiers all shift this figure in either direction. We always confirm exact, all-inclusive pricing in your written proposal before asking for any commitment.

Packing for Three Different Environments

This itinerary moves through genuinely different climates and terrain in a single trip — Akagera’s hot, open savanna, Volcanoes National Park’s cool, high-altitude forest, and Nyungwe’s humid rainforest. Packing accordingly matters more here than on a single-destination trip: lighter, breathable clothing and sun protection for Akagera; warm layers and waterproof boots for the volcano region; and a proper rain jacket for Nyungwe, which sees rain in every season regardless of when you travel. We include a detailed packing list tailored to your specific itinerary and travel dates as part of your final booking confirmation.
