For bookings made through us as your licensed Rwanda-based operator, a deposit of 40% of the total trip cost is required at the time of booking ($600 on the standard $1,500 gorilla permit), with the balance due one month before your visit date. All permit fees are set and collected by Rwanda Development Board (RDB) at the published rate; we do not mark up official permit pricing.
Gorilla trekking permit deposits are non-refundable once submitted to RDB, reflecting the non-transferable nature of the permit itself. Rescheduling is permitted with a minimum of seven days’ advance notice, once per booking, within 12 months of the original purchase date, subject to availability. The Exclusive Experience and Behind the Scene Package carry additional cancellation terms due to their bespoke, non-shared nature — these will be set out in your individual proposal.
Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking involve hiking on uneven, sometimes steep forest terrain for one to seven hours depending on the day’s animal locations. Guests should consult a physician before booking if they have any relevant health conditions. A minimum age of 15 applies to gorilla treks and most Volcanoes National Park hikes; 12 for golden monkey trekking and the Nyungwe canopy walkway; per RDB regulations.
All gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, and specialist filming permits referenced on this site are official Rwanda Development Board products, issued directly by RDB and non-transferable between individuals. If RDB cancels or reschedules your permit for reasons outside our control, we will work with RDB to rebook the next available date at no additional service fee from us.
All content on this site is for general trip-planning purposes. Permit pricing reflects the published RDB rate at time of writing and is subject to change by RDB without notice; we confirm current, exact pricing at the time of your enquiry.
