OVERNIGHT WITH UGANDA’S RHINOS
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where rhinos live in the wild, and the ranch is where you stay to track them. Staying overnight lets you track the rhinos on foot in the cool of the early morning, before driving on to Murchison Falls National Park.
The ranch also offers the sanctuary’s other activities, including a shoebill trek in the swamps and birding walks.
ROOMS
The seven chalets are built from wood, thatch and stone, with private verandas and stone bathrooms with freestanding tubs. Family chalets are available. The ranch also has simpler guest rooms and a campsite, but the chalets are the rooms we book.
ACTIVITIES
Rhino trekking on foot with rangers is the reason to stay. The shoebill trek into the sanctuary’s swamps, guided birding and nature walks fill the rest of the day.
GOOD TO KNOW
Why stay overnight rather than stop on the drive?
Rhino tracking is best early in the morning, before the heat. Staying at Ziwa makes that possible and breaks up the long drive from Kampala to Murchison.
How close do you get to the rhinos?
Rangers lead you on foot to a safe distance, often close enough for photographs without a long lens.
Can we see a shoebill here?
The ranch runs a shoebill trek into the sanctuary’s swamps. Sightings are never guaranteed.
Is the ranch suitable for families?
Yes. Family chalets and the pool make it an easy stop with children.
